What does music look like in everyday life beyond the stage? This panel explores how music lives within regional and remote communities, through local identity, wellbeing, pride and the informal spaces where people gather, create and connect.

From house concerts, community halls, pubs and backyards to collectives and DIY gatherings, the conversation will consider how artist-led and community-led activity sustains music where formal infrastructure is limited. Panellists will share examples of grassroots practice, examining why community aspiration and local benefit must matter as much as industry outcomes.

The discussion will ask what changes when communities are listened to before activity is designed, and how neighbouring towns and regions can share artists, audiences, knowledge and resources. Together, panellists will explore what small communities need to keep music active, accessible and locally meaningful.
