How do we define success in music when the measures that work in metropolitan centres do not always reflect the realities of regional and remote communities? This panel brings together leaders from festivals, research, artist management and community practice to explore how different places can define, build and sustain success on their own terms.

The conversation will consider the relationship between economic viability and social, cultural and community outcomes, asking how artists, venues, festivals and audiences can thrive over time. Panellists will examine artist-defined versus funder-defined success, the importance of participation and wellbeing, and the role of audience development in building long-term cultural value.

Moving beyond one-size-fits-all models, the panel will explore how to avoid extractive approaches to regional engagement and what success looks like after the showcase, grant or tour has ended. Together, they will consider the conditions needed for music communities to remain active, connected and sustainable.
