Music Workforce Futures: Skills, Pathways & Sustainability
Music Workforce Futures: Skills, Pathways & Sustainability
What does a sustainable music workforce look like in regional and remote areas? This panel explores the pathways, skills and support systems needed for artists, producers, technicians, production managers, educators and music workers to build meaningful careers over time.
From portfolio careers and multiple income streams to training, scholarships, mentorship and regional skills development, the discussion will examine how schools, music teachers, community radio, local studios, TAFE, universities, venues, festivals and touring networks can create stronger pathways for young people and emerging workers. Panellists will consider the difference between one-off activity and sustained support, and the role of governance in strengthening grassroots music associations and community organisations.
The conversation will also address the conditions shaping music work — including wellbeing, superannuation, contracting and employment realities. Together, the panel will explore how regional communities can grow a skilled, supported and sustainable music workforce.
