PAYDAE (Elisha James Umuhuri) is a Pitjantjatjara/Yankunytjatjara and Māori artist, producer, composer, and educator whose work spans contemporary music, orchestral composition, theatre, and immersive experiences. Based in South Australia, his practice is grounded in culture, language, and community, creating works that connect ancestral knowledge with contemporary storytelling through music. A member of the award-winning hip hop collective DEM MOB, PAYDAE has built a reputation for crafting emotionally powerful and culturally significant works across multiple artistic disciplines. His recent composer credits include Patch Theatre’s Wonderverse (2024), Glow Nation (2027), and composing the original score for Cosmic Chase as part of Vivid Sydney’s Soundscape program (2026). In October 2026, PAYDAE will premiere a newly commissioned orchestral work with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, marking a significant milestone in his expanding career as a composer. Whether producing records, scoring immersive installations, or composing for theatre and orchestra, his work is defined by authenticity, innovation, and collaboration.
