SUMMARY:Ben Lee on the Magic (& Madness) of Touring
DESCRIPTION:Drawing on an extraordinary career that has (so far!) spanned 20 solo albums\, one-off projects like the Bens (with Folds and Kweller)\, a Grammy-award winning comedy album\, a psychedelic children’s musical and now his company Weirder Together\, with his wife\, actress Ione Skye\, Ben Lee brings his signature storytelling and irreverent humour to a session on the magic (and sometimes madness) of taking your music on the road – and why he believes regional Australia and scene-building should be part of every artist’s long-term strategy. \nPhoto by Peter Dovgan.

SUMMARY:DIY or Die? Touring Regional & Remote Australia
DESCRIPTION:When you’re touring remote Australia\, is DIY the only way to survive? How can we make this kind of touring more sustainable and bring music to more communities? This session explores grassroots\, artist-led\, and community-oriented approaches to touring – where\, in the absence of traditional industry support\, artists often work solo or in small teams\, to make it happen. We’ll unpack what it really takes to keep this work going. \nPhoto: Mandy Hawkes by Swamp House Photography.

SUMMARY:On the Road to a Better Tour: The Future of Touring in a Climate-Conscious World
DESCRIPTION:Fresh off their 14-date ‘Love Is Off The Table’ regional tour\, which took their high-energy show to towns like Forth\, Albury\, and Rockhampton\, Oliver Leimbach of Lime Cordiale joins Green Music Australia’s Tim Shiel to explore how artists can reduce their touring footprint without losing the connection that comes from performing in regional communities. \nKnown for their sweaty\, intimate gigs in small rooms\, Lime Cordiale returned to their roots with the same raw energy that built their loyal following\, even after selling out arenas with their 2024 album ‘Enough of the Sweet Talk’. Long-time champions of community-focused\, regional touring\, the duo is now turning their attention to the environmental cost of being on the road\, the focus of their upcoming documentary ‘On the Road to a Better Tour’. \nIn this conversation with Tim Shiel\, who has been leading the recent ‘No Music On A Dead Planet’ campaign – they’ll reflect on what it means to tour more consciously in 2025\, how artists can advocate for change within the industry\, and why the future of touring must be both climate-aware and community-driven. \nPhoto by Maclay Heriot.

SUMMARY:The Push: Young people and Australian music
DESCRIPTION:Music is central to the lives of young Australians\, with two-thirds attending live music performances\, and 96% of young people aged 15-24 listening to recorded music. \nHowever\, access to music events is not a reality for all young people in Australia. There are fewer events in regional areas\, many events come with unaffordable ticket prices\, and rarely are live music events staged for underage audiences or designed to be accessible and culturally safe. Similarly\, young people are also experiencing barriers when it comes to pursuing a career within the Australian music industry – with more than half of young artists considering abandoning their pursuit of a career in music. \nAs highlighted as a case study in the National Cultural Policy: Revive\, for over three decades Australian youth music organisation The Push has been the entry point into Australian live music for millions of young people through its contemporary music programs and all-ages events. \nIn this session\, CEO\, Kate Duncan will unpack how The Push works with communities of young people across Australia – fostering a pipeline of music audiences\, artists and industry practitioners.
